Lubaga cathedral seeks public support to acquire 2,636-pipe music organ ahead of centenary celebrations
Lubaga Cathedral has launched a UGX 4.92 billion fundraising campaign to acquire and install a new 2,636-pipe musical instrument as part of preparations for its centenary celebrations.
The fundraising initiative aims to mobilise support from the Catholic community, well-wishers, businesses, and members of the public to bring the ambitious project to completion. The new instrument is expected to become a major addition to the cathedral’s worship, cultural heritage, and musical experience.
The project comes as Lubaga Cathedral prepares to mark 100 years since its establishment, a milestone that the church leadership says provides an opportunity to preserve its history while investing in facilities that will serve future generations.
The proposed instrument, featuring thousands of individual pipes, will be designed to enhance liturgical celebrations, concerts, and other major events hosted at the cathedral. Pipe organs are among the most complex musical instruments in the world, requiring specialised craftsmanship, installation, and long-term maintenance.
Church leaders described the fundraising effort as a collective mission that allows the faithful and supporters to participate in creating a lasting legacy for one of Uganda’s most recognised religious landmarks.
Located in Kampala, Lubaga Cathedral has played a central role in Uganda’s Catholic history and continues to serve as an important centre for worship, pilgrimage, and community activities.
